Absolute Batman by Scott Snyder and Nick Dragotta

 Absolute Batman

Well... this was something. Batman by far has the most exposure the largest number of comics and media made about him. So many comic issues either being main continuity titles or even different universes that reimagine the Dark Knight in new and challenging ways. Even Scott Snyder got to reimagine Batman in his legendary New 52 Batman run with Greg Capullo. So seeing a new out of continuity fresh take on Batman did not make me excited as that is DC's favorite things to publish since Batman prints money. I knew that Scott Snyder was a good writer but I haven't really liked any of his other Batman stories since his New 52 run. So is Absolute Batman worth the hype and excitement its gotten? I would say yes. I will say that Absolute Batman might not stand out as much as Absolute Wonder Woman because Batman gets so many cool Batman compared to Wonder Woman. That being said it is still a very good book.

What sets Absolute Batman apart from other non contiuity Batman titles is the writing. Scott Snyder has a really interesting view on Batman and he seems to be able to add to Batman's mythos in ways that feel new and exciting. I have read the first 14 issues and the annual and the story is by far the most interesting Batman title I have read since Scott Snyder's New 52 run. That run ended up being a touchstone and a way for a whole new generation of people to get into reading comics and I honestly think that Absolute Batman could do the same. The reworking of Batman's origin is really done in an interesting way and familiar Batman characters or reworked and given different perspectives that make them feel familiar but mostly different. I think that this title shined even more in its second arc with Bane. Alot of writers have failed to make Bane as impressive or cool as his first appearance in the 90s, but this book succeeds in making him a scary threat again.

I'm excited to read the Absolute Batman and Wonder Woman crossover once the scecond part comes out and then see how Joker gets reimagined.

So for right now Absolute Wonder woman is still my favorite Absolute title but this one is a close second. Only time will tell if Absolute Batman can keep up the pace and if it will be as legendary as Snyder's first Batman run.
